Walking season dates

The walking season commences early December through to Easter each year. Walking at this time ensure that the trails are in their best condition and the weather is conducive to enjoying the great outdoors.

Below you'll find all the information you need to plan your next hiking adventure at Mt Hotham.

Track and Trail update 13 January 2022

Due to the construction of the Alpine Gateway and the Whisky Flat Recreational Facility, two exciting developments that will be completed in 2022, access to some of our popular walking trails is being impacted, there’s no limit to the excellent alternatives!

Loch carpark access:  There is currently no parking permitted at the Loch Carpark. Walkers who wish to hike on any of the trails commencing from the Loch Carpark should park at the Corral Carpark (in the Hotham Village) or at The Cross (if it is safe to do so). There is pedestrian access around the worksite at Loch Carpark. It’s very important for safety reasons that no-one walks through the work site!

Brabralung Trail access: Due to construction and trench works for the Whisky Flat Recreational Facility, there is no access to the Brabralung trail between Slatey’s Shed and Whisky Flat. From Whisky Flat the trail is also impacted by works for some distance. For walker safety, we recommend parking at Brandy Creek (about 7km from Hotham Village in the direction of Dinner Plain), and joining the Brabralung Trail using the access track from the road.
