Snow in the forecast!

Updated 8 May 2023

There's snow in the forecast for today and this coming weekend (13-14 May), so if you’re thinking about visiting Mt Hotham or travelling through Mt Hotham we’d like to advise the following:

  • We may get snowfalls at higher elevations. We recommend checking the weather forecast and the Mt Hotham website to determine local conditions before you travel. You can also check our web cams to see local conditions.

  • Please check the VicTraffic app or website for current road conditions.

  • If you are not confident driving in these conditions, we suggest you consider delaying your travel. The Roads widget on the Mt Hotham website homepage will advise whether wheel chains are required.

  • If you are considering hiking in the Mt Hotham area, be prepared for unpredictable and possibly hazardous conditions. Please note that there are no emergency services available at Mt Hotham now that the snow season has ended. In an emergency, call 000.

  • On the Great Alpine Road between Harrietville and Mt Hotham, rainfall and wind can cause large rocks and tree litter to fall onto the road. Please drive with care.

Chains can be hired at the following businesses, please contact them directly:

** There is no tobogganing in the Mt Hotham resort **

If you find a road hazard, please call Vic Roads on 13 11 70 to report it.  In an emergency, please call 000.

How you can prepare for your trip to Mt Hotham:

  1. Check the weather forecast before travelling, using the Bureau of Meteorology website or app.
