Mt Hotham Skiing Company (MHSC) is the largest operator at Hotham Alpine Resort and seeks motivated, innovative and dynamic individuals each year to join our team working at the top of the Victorian Alps. 

Owned by Vail Resorts, the company is responsible for the skifield operations including snow grooming, snowmaking, lifts, snowsports school, tickets, guest services, retail, equipment hire, day spas, property, maintenance, events, marketing, Hotham Airport and more.

Application Process

Once you have created a candidate profile you can check the status of your application at any time by logging into your profile.
To ensure your notification does not go to your junk/spam folder, please add to your address book.

Interviews for seasonal positions will be held via a video format called “Sonru”. If your application progresses and you are invited to complete a video interview, we will notify you via email with a link to complete your interview. Reviewing interviews is an extensive process and your patience during this exciting time is appreciated. All applicants will be contacted as soon as possible after interviews are completed regardless if you are successful or not.


Once you have logged into your interview via the email link, and before you commence your interview, you will have an opportunity to take part in a practice interview to shake off any of those pre-interview nerves. Your interview will involve a series of questions with an allocated amount of time to answer each question verbally using your phone, tablet or webcam.

Unlike a Skype interview, there isn’t a person asking the questions from another webcam. This means the benefit of using the Sonru application is you, the candidate, can complete your interview at a time which is convenient for you anywhere in the world! 
Where appropriate, we may request a phone and/or a face to face format in which case the hiring manager will be in contact with you directly. 

Employment Offers

Successful applicants will have an Employee Profile created and receive an electronic letter of offer containing all details of the position being offered. As a successful applicant you are required to either accept or decline your offer by the expiry date.
Once an offer is accepted, you will receive further pre-employment on-boarding activities sent to your Employee Profile via the Talent Centre. Please ensure you complete all activities before the expiry date and keep all your personal details in your profile up to date.


I've got the job! What happens next?

Once you have accepted your employment offer and completed all required on-boarding activities then your main point of contact will be your manager. They will be in contact with you regarding your start date and first day of work. Keep in mind, most start dates are snow dependant. We understand you are eager to arrive and get started as soon as possible. If, at any time, you are unsure on anything regarding your employment send an email to and one of the team will respond to you.
We operate year-round with a permanent workforce of around 50 employees; during our winter season (June to October) our numbers grow to a whopping 500!

Those of you about to join the Mount Hotham Skiing Company family - relax - you are in good hands. Many of our employees return year after year, and it's our return employees who'll teach you the ropes, helping you to feel confident in your new role and ensuring Mount Hotham continues to deliver an Experience of a Lifetime to our guests. 

We suggest you arrive a few days before your first day of work so you can familiarise yourself with the area and check into your accommodation. Below are some key things to organise in advance of your arrival and during the first couple of days. Employee FAQ's


On-Boarding Requirements

To help you learn more about the resort before you start at Mount Hotham, you are required to complete a number of online activities (also known as 'online induction'). These online tasks can be completed either in sections or all at once. We are unable to assign a start date for you until your pre-employment training is complete.

How It Works

All on boarding paperwork will be sent to your employee profile with an email notification, including a link to log into the Talent Center. This electronic system is designed to improve turn-around times for contract paperwork, while contributing to our zero foot-print by 2030 initiative. We ask you complete these in a timely manner prior to their expiry date.

Things To Do

•    Australian bank account
•    Superannuation information (include your membership number or complete the online application to join Hostplus as a new member)
•    Staff accommodation request form
•    Tax Declaration form
•    Attach a copy of your passport – To verify your Australian Working Rights
•    Add your Working Holiday and passport details (if applicable)
•    Complete any additional department-specific on boarding activities.

We require your e-Signature on all documents. We do not accept faxed or scanned copies.

First Day

We understand your first day can be daunting. Before you arrive your manager will be in contact with you to let you know exactly where you need to meet. 

The Mount Hotham Skiing Company Human Resources department and your manager are available prior to your arrival to answer any questions you may have.
Most seasonal start dates are snow dependant; we’re as eager as you for the snow to start falling and therefore appreciate your patience from the time you receive your employment offer and your actual start date. We will do our best to provide as much notice as possible to give you time to arrange your travel plans.

While your body will acclimatise to the temperatures over the season, you're likely to feel the cold especially during the first few weeks. Although one bulky item of clothing can be convenient, it's not always practical. We suggest you bring a number of layers, so you can take off and put on what you need. Uniforms will be issued to you once you commence employment and must only to be worn during work hours.

Staff Passes

Mount Hotham Skiing Company employees are provided with a free lift pass for the duration of their employment. This pass may also be used a Falls Creek and Perisher. As a Mount Hotham Skiing Company employee, your pass also allows you to access free ski and/or snowboard lessons during the season; lessons must be booked through the Ski and Ride School and restrictions apply on weekends and school holidays. You must show your pass at Mount Hotham Skiing Company retail outlets to receive your discount when purchasing any product.

Staff passes can be collected from our designated ticket office during business hours, unless otherwise advised by your Manager. Only once all assigned pre-employment onboarding activities have been completed will your lift pass be activated.

Resort Entry

Resort Entry Permits are required for all cars stopping in a Victorian Alpine Resort during the designated snow season.
Staff season car permits are available for approximately $100. These passes are limited. The staff car park is called car park 12 and is situated about 10 minutes out of the resort and can be accessed via a free bus service. 

To obtain a resort entry pass for your car, you must

1. Accept your letter of offer
2. Complete your on-boarding and then
3. Go to Mount Hotham Skiing Company Administration to collect a staff parking form. The form and payment will need to be taken to the Resort Management Board (located across the road).

Purchasing Equipment

There are various options for purchasing equipment once you arrive at Mount Hotham. If you've never been to the snow before, we suggest you hire your skiing or snowboarding equipment, take a few lessons and then decide which is for you. Mount Hotham Skiing Company offers great staff discounts in our retail and rental outlets. 

Living at Hotham

Mount Hotham Skiing Company offers subsidies accommodation available both on mountain and in Dinner Plain (Dinner Plain is a village located approximately 12km down the road from Hotham and offers more space and privacy). 

The Mount Hotham Resort Management Board provides a free internal village bus service to visitors and staff. Catch it at any of the “Village Bus” bus stop signs which are located near most car parks, major lifts and accommodation.

Dinner Plain is a village situated 10 km from Hotham where many guests and staff stay while working and playing at Hotham. There is a day bus service which operates between Hotham and Dinner Plain. No bookings are necessary and the service is free to staff.

Road Conditions

It is a legal requirement for all vehicles, including 4WDs, entering the resort to carry correctly fitting diamond pattern snow chains during the designated winter season. Chains can be hired or purchased from Rays Ski Shop in Myrtleford, Hoys in Harrietville and Omeo Ski Hire & Service Station in Omeo. We strongly recommend that you practice fitting chains to your vehicle before making the trip up the mountain. Another good idea is to have a chain fitting kit bag with you containing; gloves, torch or head lamp, tarp or protective ground cover.

There is NO FUEL available at Mt Hotham or Dinner Plain. You will need to travel to Bright or Omeo for fuel and trading hours are sometimes limited. Make sure you get your car serviced prior to heading to Mount Hotham, as the cold can play havoc. Cars require anti-freeze coolant and a good trick is to add a little methylated spirits to your windscreen wiper water, to help stop it freezing.

Diesel vehicles require alpine diesel (or alpine fuel mix) which can be purchased in Bright or Omeo. Alpine diesel needs to be run through the engine. Don’t park your car then add additive. The diesel in the lines will still freeze. 

Should you be in a carpool with a fellow staff member or housemate, don't forget your manners! The offer of a little cash towards petrol will no doubt be gratefully received.
