Wintery Blast!

It really feels like winter this morning!  We've picked up a few extra centimeters in the past 24 hours and there is still the odd flurry as I write.  The temperature is a chilly minus 4.6, and the wind is a strong southerly.  The snow guns have been running continuously for over 24 hours, which should have made a big difference to the cover in many areas.

The groomers will still be the best bet for fun turns this morning, but the forecast is showing snow showers for the next few days and hopefully a significant dump early in the week.  Powder turns may not be too far away?  Stay tuned!

Heavenly Valley area is open but the cover is thin, the snow is hard and the runs are only suitable for advanced and expert skiers and riders. The extreme area is closed due to a significant ice hazard, and please do not attempt to retrieve dropped equipment from closed areas of the resort.

Road Runner is scheduled for First Tracks from 7.30am this morning.

Rug up for the significant windchill and get out there.

Cheers Bill

Backcountry Conditions

24 July 2026 There is a significant sliding hazard in the backcountry again today, plus the cover is thin, becoming more marginal the lower you go. All aspects will likely stay very icy and dangerous for the day. There has not been enough fresh snow to reduce the sliding hazard. Take Care.

Village to workshop (Poo farm trail ) groomed again for skate / classic.. Wire Plain to Whiskey Flat groomed Skate Classic. There was a light dusting overnight.

Issued: Fri 24 July, 06:54AM

The light dusting last night will make the surface nice to ski on, however be aware of variable conditions out there. Cover is still thin in places. Please ski with care. If you aren't skilled I would recommend using classic skis.
TOBOGGANING AT MT HOTHAM. is now open for lots of fun. Book your tickets online at mthotham.com.au/toboggan
The only place on Mt Hotham for tobogganing is at the HOTHAM HUB toboggan slope ( Wire Plain ) Bus stop 11.
The Hotham Hub has toilets, toboggan hire, hot food and drinks to make your experience all that more enjoyable.
The Peashooter toboggan slope at DP is also open.

Best XC Skiing

Village to Skiers xing, higher trails in the Xmas Hill area, very nice, (some gravel breaks, take care) very good down to Wire Plain. Wire Plain has bare areas, then very good to Whiskey Flat.

Dinner Plain Trail

Worth an explore however there are thin and bare areas. Some walking will be involved.

Cheers Bev.
