There's fun to be found!
Yesterday's less than ideal weather has mostly pushed through, so it should be a relatively more user-friendly day on the hill. The past couple of days has done significant damage to the cover but there will still be fun turns to be had out there. There is no precipitation at the moment, the current temp is minus 0.6, heading for a top of 3 degrees, and the wind is a stiff northwesterly.
Sun Run, Basin, Summit and Big D have been groomed and will be in pretty good shape. The Village Loop and Heavenly Valley area have been upgraded to Advanced Riders and Skiers Only, due to a marginal cover and very minimal grooming. Although the cover is marginal, the snow will be fun to ski and ride. Road Runner is scheduled for 7:30 First Tracks this morning.
And keep an eye out for a couple of ikons of our sport cruising around the hill. John Egan and Tom Day (both of Warren Miller fame) are checking out Hotham for a few days.
Get out there and make the most of it!
Cheers Bill

Backcountry Conditions
21 August
It's not an ideal day for the backcountry but you may find a few ok turns out there somewhere. Beware of a slide hazard if it clears and cools and watch out for the very thin cover. Take care.
Conditions were too wet to groom on our thin cover so no grooming of the Poo farm trail or anywhere else.

Quite windy out there today. Rug up and give it a go. Due to our recent rain the open areas will have got larger, however it will still be worth getting out for a ski. Just after Skiers Xing there are a couple of patches of gravel. Skis off here. Brabralung to Wire Plain Complete cover, Wire Plain bare .Wonderland definitely skiable with some careful xing of grass on skis. From Telemark Hill open area turn left up to 4 Ways, Rowards Run back down to Wire Plain skiable, again the odd spot open , cross carefully. There is more out there than you might think. Surface is rain slicked , a mixture of firm and soft. Conditions are still very variable and can be tricky. Ski with care especially on downhill sections.
TOBOGGANING AT MT HOTHAM. is now open for lots of fun. Book your tickets online at mthotham.com.au/toboggan
