Super Sunday....Again!

It'll be another beaut sunny day with really fun spring-like snow conditions on the hill.  The sky is clear and there is a moderate southeasterly which is forecast to drop right away during the day.  The temperature dropped to minus 4 overnight, is currently minus 1, and we are heading for a top of 5 degrees.

The cold overnight temperature has given the snowpack a good solid freeze and allowed the snowguns to fire up for several hours.  The turns will likely be firm and fast (and good for feeling those edges) to start the day, before the sunny east and north facing slopes soften for fun turns.  Shaded and south facing slopes may stay pretty firm for the day, so follow the sun for the most consistent fun.

Heavenly Valley will open for WRX First Tracks at 7.30 this morning.

Slap it on and have a beaut one.

Cheers Bill

Backcountry Conditions

The snowpack has had a good solid freeze overnight, so there will be a significant slide hazard on all steep slopes this morning. Solar aspects should soften for good spring-like turns as the day warms but beware of south facing and shaded slopes that may stay hard and slick for the day. Take care out there.

Groomed again last night; Village to Whiskey Flat. All North side except Big Spur, Biathlon and Hurley's.

All groomed trails will be very good skiing. Firm to start with. MT. LOCH. If heading out to explore that area, let someone know of your plans. Always keep an eye out for rapid weather changes. Trail to DP groomed Saturday 9th August. Most of the trail still has good cover and is in good condition. There are bare patches on the switch backs, skis off and near J B plain some walking Thursday I carefully negotiated some grassy patches. This trip is definitely still worth while. No more grooming of this trail unless we have more snow.
