Mt Hotham's free guided walks are back for Easter - one day only!

Always wanted to try hiking at Hotham but not confident to do it alone?

Curious about Hotham's local history, flora and fauna?

Love the idea of hiking but hate the idea of doing it hard?

Our free guided short walks are just what you need! Family-friendly and chock full of interesting facts and stunning views, these walks are a great way to spend a couple of hours in an amazing environment high above the clouds.

Event date: Saturday 3rd April 2021 (Easter Saturday)

Join Hagen, Hotham local and owner/operator of Vic Alps Backcountry on a free guided hike this Easter. Perfect for the whole family, Hagen will guide you in your discovery of Hotham's trail network. Take in the views from the sub-alpine and learn about Hotham’s history, landscapes, flora and fauna from an expert guide. 

There are three sessions available throughout the day. All sessions are an opportunity to learn more about Mt Hotham’s extensive track ‘n’ trail network.

What to Bring

Wear sturdy shoes, pack a day pack with water and snacks. Weather can be changeable at all timees of the year in the alpine environment, so we also recommend packing rainwear, beanie, gloves and an extra layer.

Walk details

Session 1:  8:30am to 10:30am, approx 3 km

 An overview of Mt Hotham Resort and the Pygmy Possum Habitat Protection Program

Meet at the First Run Café at 830am (grab yourself a pre-hike coffee if you need one). Hike up Mt Higginbotham via the look out, through the Big D ski area and finish at The General Store where you can stay on for ‘elevenses’ or an early lunch.

Session 2: 11:00am to 12:30pm. approx 3 km

An overview of Mt Hotham Resort and the Pygmy Possum Habitat Protection Program

Meet at The General Store (grab yourself a pre-hike coffee if you need one), hike up through the Big D ski area, up and over Mt Higginbotham and finish at The First Run Café. (The cafe is open for lunch if you'd like to stay on and replenish your energy).

Session 3: 1:00pm to 3.30-4.00pm, approx 6-8 km

Hotham Summit and Views of Mt Feathertop and The Razorback 

Meet at the Tourist Transit Shelter, ground floor of the Resort Management building for a pre-hike briefing. Take in the Hotham Summit and alpine surrounds whilst learning from Hagen. This hike concludes at the Resort Management building.

Advertised hikes are weather dependant and the program will be adjusted to best suit the conditions.
