The Street Library program is a great little initiative started in 2015 by Australian Nic Lowe, who wanted to build an Australian-based free library movement that encouraged literacy and community.
Currently there are around 791 registered Street Libraries in Australia, including the Mt Hotham Street Library.
You can find our Street Library in the Transit Station, off the Corral Car Park. It's available 24 x 7, 365 days a year.
How does it work? Easy - it's like 'book karma'. All books and magazines are donated by users. Take a book - free! You can swap it for one of yours, or just take it, no drama, we know another will come to take its place. When you're done, put it back, or pass it on to someone else. If you have a book you want to donate, feel free!
We're hoping that people will find it useful for those evenings when you just want to snuggle up in front of the fire with a good book and a mulled wine, but you don't actually have that book - come and grab one! There is a selection of fiction and non-fiction, books and magazines.
Happy reading!
