What is the difference between Standard, Performance & Demo rentals? Which is right for me?
Our Standard range is best for skiers and riders starting out or looking to progress their skills at slower to moderate speeds across all ability levels. Typically, our Standard range offers easy turn initiation and a forgiving flex for easy days on snow.
Our Performance range offers a better experience for intermediate to advanced riders. Having a stiffer flex, providing better edge grip and more stability at moderate to higher speeds. The performance range of equipment pertains to the ski or board as we select boots on best fit.
- Minimum height requirement for Performance Skis is 140cm and 145cm for Snowboards.
- Our Performance range is limited, and we recommend booking to avoid disappointment
- Our Performance range is available at Hotham Central only
We recommend upgrading to the Performance range for guests who are advanced skiers or boarders.

Our Demo range is a limited offering of the latest skis & boards from all major brands. The range matches what is available to purchase at Board Box & One Tree Sports and boards and skis are only available from those locations respectively. The range acts as a try-before-you-buy service and the cost of your demo can be subtracted from the new purchase price (should you choose to purchase new equipment at the conclusion of your booking). Demo availability varies during the season and depends on what is booked out by other guests. Our Demo range cannot be purchased online, please head into store to finalise you’re booking.
Do you rent helmets?
Yes, helmets for both adults and children are available for hire and are included in children’s ski and snowboard rental packages
Please note that all children participating in a lesson are required to wear an accredited snow sports helmet.
Helmets must be added as part of a package and cannot be booked online by themselves. Helmets may be booked in-store but are subject to availability
Do you rent goggles or gloves?
No. Due to hygiene reasons, we do not rent out goggles or gloves however these are available to purchase in-resort at our retail outlets.
Can I bring my own boots or skis?
Absolutely. We now offer skis only, board only and boot only products on our online store.
I am an Epic Australia Pass Holder, how and where can I redeem my Epic Australia Pass rentals discount?
Epic Australia Pass holders receive 20% off rentals when purchased online and in advance at Hotham Sports outlets. Simply sign in to your account prior to purchasing and the discount will be automatically applied. Your discount will be shown at the order review step of the checkout process.

Do I need chains for my vehicle, where can I rent them?
Yes, it is a legal requirement to carry and fit where directed diamond pattern wheel chains during the winter season. Fines apply for not carrying or fitting as directed.
Chains are NOT available to rent on mountain and must be arranged prior to arrival.
- All vehicles must carry chains when entering the resort.
- All vehicles must fit chains as directed by ‘fit chains’ signage.
- Exemptions for fitting chains (i.e. 4WD exemption) are determined by road conditions on an ongoing basis.
- Fitting winter/snow tyres does not negate the requirement to carry or fit chains as directed.

Rental pick up and drop offs
If we arrive early, can we pick up our skis the day before?
Yes, and we welcome it.
For one and two-day rentals, equipment can be collected from 3pm the day before your ticket starts.
For three or more day rentals, you can collect your equipment from 2pm the day before your ticket starts to take full advantage of the free PM access included with your ticket!
What time do I have to return my rental equipment by?
You can return your rental equipment up until 10am the day after your rental package expires without being charged for the additional day.
Can I exchange or swap my rental equipment?
Yes. One of the many benefits of hiring your equipment directly from Hotham Sports is the option to exchange your rentals any time at any one of our convenient hire locations.
If you’re having any trouble with your equipment (e.g. sizing or fit), head into our outlet at Hotham Central or Dinner Plain and our friendly staff will help you out.
If you’d like to swap between skis/snowboards and vice versa you can do so at either of the above outlets. Please note there is a $25 fee.
How do I change or cancel my rental booking?
If your plans change you have the option to either cancel or change your booking.
Changes or cancellations that result in money being payable back to the purchaser will be issued in the form of a Snow Credit. No cash refunds will be issued.
Any requested changes of cancellations to bookings must be made at least 48 hours or more prior to the earliest scheduled commencement date of your booking.

How much time should I allow for rental pickups?
This can vary depending on the day and time of pick-up, guest volume as well as the size of your group.
We recommend allocating at least one hour for rental collection which includes queuing, fitment of boots and ski/board adjustment. During school holidays and on Saturday and Monday mornings please allow for more time as we expect greater volumes of guests at those times. If your plans allow, please aim to collect your rental equipment from 3pm the day before your booking starts.
When is the best time to collect my rentals?
For the smoothest experience, we recommend collecting your rentals the day prior to your booking from 3pm. If you have three or more days of rentals and lift tickets booked, you can collect from 2pm the day prior. This will ensure you get even more time out on the slopes.
If this isn’t possible, please be aware that mornings are typically our busiest period, especially on weekends, therefore wait times for rental collections may be extended. Please factor this in if you have a lesson booked.
