Snow on the ground for Hotham's regional Victorian visitors

28/09/2020

With close to 50cm of fresh snow falling late last week Hotham is looking nice and white again. The resort is open to visitors from Regional Victoria and with good weather forecast over the next couple of days come and enjoy our snow play and the winter views.

25/09/2020

After good snowfalls over the past 24 hours there is sufficient snow to have some fun at Hotham this weekend. As of Friday afternoon, there is more than enough snow to enjoy snow play and by Saturday morning cross country skiing will be possible through the village and down to Skier’s Crossing at Slatey Cutting.

If you’re thinking of a day trip or just passing through the resort, you can explore the village via several local walking tracks. Snowshoe hire is also available on-mountain if you’re feeling more adventurous. If you are walking through the village, please be considerate of any cross-country grooming that is carried out and avoid walking on these trails.

Be prepared for very cold temperatures, daily maximums of between -4 degrees on Friday to 1 degree on Sunday. Overnight temperatures will drop to well below zero, at around -6 degrees every night until Tuesday.

Stay warm!

Day trippers should also be sure to rug up and prepare for the very cold temperatures and expect icy conditions on the roads and in our car-parks. You can warm up with a meal or a hot drink and enjoy the views at The General or First Run Cafe, who are operating in line with current public health guidelines.

You don't have to pay to enter Mt Hotham resort, but you DO have to carry diamond-pattern tyre chains between Harrietville and Omeo, and fit them if directed.

Another tip: there is no fuel supply at Mt Hotham, so make sure you fill up in Bright or Omeo. If you drive a diesel car, you may need to use a diesel additive, particularly if staying in the resort overnight, or whilst cold temperatures persist during the day. Diesel additive is available at service stations in Bright and Omeo. Make sure you check your owners manual

Safe driving in the snow

Check out this handy information from Vic Roads about safe driving in the snow:  https://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/safety-and-road-rules/driver-safety/snow-and-winter-driving

Stay safe

We remind everyone that face coverings are still required for anyone over the age of 12 years whenever you leave your home, unless a lawful exception applies. In addition, groups of a maximum of 10 people are now able to meet up outdoors (this number does not include children under 12 months of age, who are exempt).

Stay safe - practise good hygiene and regularly and thoroughly wash your hands. Maintain physical distancing, keep at least 1.5 metres away from others. If you feel unwell, get tested and stay home until you receive your result.
