DISABLED ACCESS

Mt Hotham welcomes visitors of all abilities, and supports Disabled Wintersport Australia's resort services program. We provide a number of services, including a Disability Visitor's Guide for Winter, designated disabled day parking bays, wheelchair accessible toilets in public areas (including at the top of Heavenly Valley), and wheelchair accessible public shelters and cafes.

Designated Disabled Parking Bays

Corral Day Car Park: There are four designated disabled car parking bays in this car park, located immediately opposite the Village chairlift and adjacent to the Resort Management Office. Access to the snowfields is approximately 50m from the Corral Car Park therefore wheelchair access and assistance with moving personal adaptive equipment to the snowfields may be required. If the disabled parking bays are occupied and the remainder of the car park is full or not suitable for your specific needs, contact Resort Management and explain your specific requirements. Resort Management will be able to allocate alternative parking in front of the Snowbird Inn for day access.

Big D Day Car Park: DWA dashboard token parking is available at CFA corner (between the Big D ski area and the CFA building), but is only permitted with a DWA token. These tokens are only available from the Resort Management Office, located above the Transit Lounge in Hotham Village.

Loch Day Car Park: There are two designated disabled car parks in the Loch Car Park, located in the underneath car park.  Please note that this car park is the highest public car park in Victoria, at 1800 metres, which means it is quite exposed to the elements and regularly subject to high winds and deep snow drifts during or immediately after snow storms.

Long Term Parking: If you are staying overnight or longer, you will need to park in the Long-term / Overnight parking areas indicated in green on the Disability Visitor's Winter Guide. You will need to move your vehicle to one of these car parks by 11:00pm, however you can unload your luggage in one of the many 15/30 minute parking areas near your accommodation then move your car to the long term parking. A free Village shuttle bus, which is suitable for wheelchair access, will pick up from the long term parking areas and take you to a bus stop nearest your accommodation.

Wheelchair Accessible Toilets

There are four (4) wheelchair accessible toilets within the Mt Hotham resort area.

Transit Lounge: Located at the rear of the public shelter / Transit Lounge, which is adjacent to the Corral Car Park (beneath the Resort Management Office). Enter via Transit Lounge doors, and use the ramp to access the toilets at the rear of this area.

Hotham Central: Enter the Hotham Central building via Hotham Snow Sports Centre doors in the centre of the building complex, turn right at the corridor, follow the corridor approximately 50 metres to the wheelchair elevator on the right-hand side of the corridor. Note: Keys for the elevator are available at Guest Services, all retail outlets and Hotham Sports Rentals. Continue past the Guest Services desk/ticket office towards the end of the building where wheelchair accessible toilets are located. Snow conditions may make access to the building more difficult; if you need assistance entering the building or moving around within Hotham Central, Guest Services are happy to assist, please ask at the Guest Services desk.

Big D Centre: Wheelchair accessible toilets are on the ground floor in the Big D centre near the ticket office. Note: Disabled parking close to the Big D is in the day car park at CFA corner (between the Big D ski area and the CFA building), but is only permitted with a DWA token, only available from the Resort Management Office.

Heavenly Valley Chair: The public shelter at the top of the Heavenly Valley chairlift has a wheelchair accessible toilet (also accessible from the Loch car park). Disabled Wintersport Australia has supplied a guest wheelchair to help with entering the shelter and accessing the toilet.

Public Shelters and Cafes

There are three areas where visitors requiring wheelchair access can shelter. In Hotham Central there are also cafes that are wheelchair accessible.

Transit Lounge: See above for how to access the Transit Lounge. There are vending machines and water available here, but no cafes.

Hotham Central: See above for how to access the Hotham Central building. In the main corridor the food and retail outlets include the Hotham Central Supermarket and Hot Doggies. Chill Bar & Cafe can be accessed via the wheelchair elevator at the end of the corridor. Note: Keys for the elevator are available at Guest Services, all retail outlets and Hotham Sports Rentals.

Big D: There is limited shelter space in the foyer of the Big D centre, however the cafe on the first floor is not wheelchair accessible. Note: Disabled parking close to the Big D is in the day car park at CFA corner (between the Big D ski area and the CFA building), but is only permitted with a DWA token, only available from the Resort Management Office.

Free Wheelchair Accessible Shuttle Buses

Mt Hotham's bus fleet features low floor buses fitted with a wheelchair ramp, compliant with Victorian transport standards.

The buses pick up and drop off at designated stops in a loop around the village, from Hotham Central to Whiskey Flat (please refer to the Disability Visitors' Guide for a map showing the bus route). For visitors using wheelchairs, the driver will place a ramp between the front door of the bus to the kerb of the road. Please note that the incline of the ramp may vary due to snow clearing levels.

We recommend that all visitors requiring wheelchair access beyond bus transport contact Mt Hotham Resort Management staff to discuss their requirements as early as possible to help ensure a safe and enjoyable visit.

Free Freedom Trax Rental

To assist with getting around on snow, Hotham has invested in a Freedom Trax motorised off-road attachment for manual wheelchairs. This is available for guests to hire free of charge while they are staying at Mt Hotham.

Pick-up is centrally located at Hotham Sports in Hotham Central following pre-booking with Disabled Wintersport Australia following the booking process outlined below.
