Seasonal Employment - Winter

Would you like to work in one of Australia’s premier Alpine destinations and experience a winter at the highest alpine village in Australia? We are now recruiting for seasonal staff for the 2021 winter season.

During the winter months Mount Hotham Alpine Resort Management Board employs seasonal staff with the attributes of enthusiasm, flexibility, friendliness, and a can-do approach to assist in the running of our winter operations. 

The positions available at the Resort Management for 2021 season are:

Garbage Collector

The Mount Hotham Alpine Resort Management Board (MHARMB) under the Alpine Resorts (Management) Act 1997 is responsible for the collection and disposal of garbage from Mount Hotham Alpine Resort.

The Board maintains a fleet of garbage collection vehicles, including over-snow vehicles, dedicated to the function of garbage collection and operates and maintains a 1.988 hectare land fill site for disposal of waste from the resort.

Staff employed in this area will be responsible for the collection, sorting and disposal of all recycled and domestic waste throughout the Resort.  All vehicles must be operated and staffed with individuals who are safety conscious and display excellent communication skills. All duties will be outside therefore you will be exposed to inclement weather and must be experienced and confident in driving in these conditions.  You will be provided with a uniform and protective equipment (PPE). 

Successful candidates will work from 5.00am to 3.00pm.  Most days the collection can be completed in an 8 hour shift or less, although during peak season times the collection may require a full 10 hour shift.

Candidate Requirements

  • Current Victorian Heavy Rigid licence, or interstate equivalent (mandatory);\
  • Ability to undertake physical repetitive work
  • Work in inclement weather;
  • Proven experience in the customer service industry;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Safety conscious and aware;
  • Immunisation Record;
  • Willing to work flexibly.

Visitor Services Officer  

Mount Hotham Alpine Resort Management Board seeks enthusiastic people with customer service experience to join our friendly team.  You will enjoy working in a busy and positive environment set in picturesque Mount Hotham – a uniquely stunning alpine environment.  Staff in this position represent the mountain and the Mount Hotham Alpine Resort Management Board.   

The Visitor Services Team purpose is:

  • To provide visitors with exemplary service, information and problem solving
  • Support visitors to enjoy a safe and pleasurable visit by maintaining the outdoor environment.
  • To provide visitors with advice and guidance in accessing resort services and amenities.

Located in the village, the visitor services team are responsible for providing visitor information services, meeting and greeting visitors, assisting with resort entry permits, maintaining a safe environment, assisting visitors with car parking and some traffic management.

Candidate Attributes

  • Happy, friendly and approachable;
  • Previous experience in the Customer Service Roles;
  • A positive can-do attitude;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Proven capability working effectively in a team;
  • Ability to handle pressure effectively;
  • High regard for personal appearance and presentation;
  • Car licence (manual required);

Tourism Information Officer

Mount Hotham Alpine Resort Management Board seeks enthusiastic, passionate and experienced people to join our friendly team.  You will enjoy working in a busy and positive environment set in picturesque Mount Hotham – a uniquely stunning alpine environment.  Staff in this position represent the mountain and the Mount Hotham Alpine Resort Management Board. 

The Visitor Services Team purpose is:

  • To provide visitors with exemplary service, information and problem solving.
  • Support visitors to enjoy a safe and pleasurable visit by maintaining the outdoor environment.
  • To provide visitors with advice and guidance in accessing resort services and amenities.

In this role you will be the first point of contact for all visitor and stakeholder enquiries at the front desk, via telephone and email communications. Your key areas and responsibilities will include: Visitor information services, assisting visitors with resort entry enquiries, sale of resort entry permits, complaints handling, phone system management, general office/administration duties, word processing, data entry, POS and bank reconciliation.

Visitor Services Night/Day Supervisor

Mount Hotham Alpine Resort Management Board seeks enthusiastic and experienced people to join our friendly team.  You will enjoy working in a busy and positive environment set in picturesque Mount Hotham – a uniquely stunning alpine environment.  Staff in this position represent the mountain and the Mount Hotham Alpine Resort Management Board.  

The Visitor Services Team purpose is:

  • To provide visitors with exemplary service, information and problem solving.
  • Support visitors to enjoy a safe and pleasurable visit by maintaining the outdoor environment.
  • To provide visitors with advice and guidance in accessing resort services and amenities.

Located in the village, the visitor services team are responsible for providing visitor information services, meeting and greeting visitors, assisting with resort entry permits, maintaining a safe environment, assisting visitors with car parking and some traffic management.

In this role the day/night supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the visitor services team through supervision and support of visitor services staff, ensure the safety of all visitors and staff, complaints handling, car parking and traffic management, resource allocation, delivering a smooth arrival experience for all visitors, prepare reports on daily operations, staff training; and liaising with bus services, local businesses, stakeholders and visitors to ensure the RMB are delivering a high standard of service to everyone that comes to Mt Hotham.

Candidate Attributes

  • Experience supervising and overseeing a large team;
  • A background in customer service, operations, car parking / traffic management and/or night shifts;
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions;
  • High level of leadership and communication skills;
  • Well-developed problem-solving skills;
  • A positive can-do attitude;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Ability to handle pressure effectively;
  • Car licence (manual required);

Visitor Services Parking Attendant / Chain Bay Operator

Mount Hotham Alpine Resort Management Board seeks enthusiastic and experienced people to join our friendly team.  You will enjoy working in a busy and positive environment set in picturesque Mount Hotham – a uniquely stunning alpine environment.  Staff in this position represent the mountain and the Mount Hotham Alpine Resort Management Board.  

The Visitor Services Team purpose is:

  • Support visitors to enjoy a safe and pleasurable visit by maintaining the outdoor environment.
  • To provide visitors with advice and guidance in accessing resort services and amenities.

Located in the village, the visitor services team are responsible for providing visitor information services, meeting and greeting visitors, assisting with resort entry permits, maintaining a safe environment, assisting visitors with car parking and some traffic management.

  • Ability to work independently in remote locations;
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions;
  • A positive can-do attitude;
  • Excellent communication skills;

  • Car licence (manual required).

Plant Operators, Snow Clearers

Staff in this position will operate plant and equipment required to meet winter operations, maintenance and snow clearing objectives.

Candidate Requirements

  • Current Victorian Drivers licence with a minimum requirement Heavy Rigid endorsement;
  • Backhoe, Loader and Skid Steer relevant tickets;
  • Expertise in operating and maintaining earthmoving plant and attachments;
  • Immunisation Record;
  • Snow clearing experience;
  • Mechanical aptitude;
  • Ability to work outdoors in different weather extremes;
  • Willingness to perform shift work;
  • Safety awareness;
  • Understanding of effective snow management techniques;

Required experience on 2 or more of the following machines:

  • Heavy Rigid Truck
  • Wheel Loader
  • Skid Steer
  • Backhoe

Ski Patrollers

Ski Patrollers deliver professional first aid and evacuation services to injured people on the ski field. In addition, the patrol has a primary role in risk management and accident prevention across the resort.

Each patroller must be able to work within and contribute constructively to a strong team culture.

The prerequisite qualifications for the described position at Mount Hotham include:

  • successful completion of the Australian Ski Patrol Association First Aid certificate or equivalent;
  • demonstration or proof of on snow skills and patrol experience;
  • good health and physical fitness are also necessary.

These positions report to the Ski Patrol Director and are responsible to ensure efficient, professional and safe operation of the ski fields, delivery of first aid and evacuation services and customer service on a daily basis.

Ski Patrollers are appointed for the delivery of services to the snow season program and the term of their employment is linked to resort labour requirements, which in turn is linked to snow fall, snow depth, weather conditions and visitor numbers.

These positions are located at Mount Hotham Alpine Resort.

Weekend and shift work will be required through the snow season, including the possibility of search and rescue duties.

Award wages apply and candidates must have a current Drivers Licence for snowmobile/oversnow operations.

Resort Entry Compliance Officer

The role of the resort entry compliance officer is to ensure all vehicles entering the resort have purchased a valid entry permit and vehicles are parked in the correct parking area, as well as guide and educate visitors on resort entry permit  requirements. 

The compliance officer will be responsible for monitoring all vehicles in the village area, ensuring compliance with fee payment and issuing infringement notices if a vehicle is located outside of permitted area/s.  The compliance officer  must be able to interact with the public in a professional manner and work in extreme weather conditions.

Candidate Requirements

  • Happy, friendly and approachable;
  • Previous experience in the Customer Service Roles;
  • Excellent computer skills;
  • Highly organised;
  • Illustrate high levels of attention to detail;
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Willing to be flexible in working hours;
  • Assist and support other staff;
  • Capable of driving safely in hazardous conditions (min. car licence);
  • Data entry experience preferred.

Cross Country Trail Groomer

The position requires snow grooming of the resort’s cross country trail network, snow play and village areas to a high customer standard.  The cross country Groomers will work closely with the Snow Clearer’s to assist in resort operations and the harvesting for snow where appropriate.

Candidate Requirements

  • Car licence mandatory, medium rigid licence preferred;
  • Highly organized;
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Prepared to work nights and early mornings;
  • Willing to be flexible in working hours (snow dependent);
  • Capable of driving safely in hazardous conditions;
  • Prior snow grooming experience preferred but not essential;
  • Experience driving snow mobiles & snow grooming kassbohrer’s desirable.
  • Backhoe, Loader and Skid Steer relevant tickets;
  • Expertise in operating and maintaining earthmoving plant and attachments;
  • Understanding of effective snow management techniques;

Please note that the winter season officially starts on Saturday 12th June 2021 and concludes on Sunday 3rd October 2021 (training will take place prior to the commencement of the season). Snow operations employees are hired specifically for the declared snow season. They are appointed for the delivery of services to the snow season program and the term of their appointment is linked to resort labour requirements which in turn is linked to snow fall, snow depth, weather conditions and visitor numbers and restrictions bought about by COVID-19.
