Hang on to your hats!

The wind has picked right up ahead of an approaching cold front, but the sky is clear and we should be in for another mostly sunny day. The current temp is minus 2.5, heading for a top of 3 degrees and the wind is a strong northerly which is forecast to increase later in the day.

The snowpack has had a decent freeze overnight and is pretty firm underfoot, but I think there is enough texture on the surface of the groomed runs for good turns from the get-go. Off piste will be mostly hard and challenging, but some of the sunniest aspects may soften as the day warms. Get out there and make the most of the fine weather today, as it looks like we may be in for a pretty wild one tomorrow.

Also, as an FYI, as we count down to the Freeride World Tour events scheduled to kick off Thursday, Peach Bowl on Heavenly Valley will be closed to public access starting today. We apologise for any inconvenience but if you can make it up to watch the events, its a great show of some of Australia's best Freeride talent so highly recommend it!

Rug up for the windchill and keep an eye on the lift status, as the strong wind may impact some of the upper and outer lifts today.

Cheers Bill

Backcountry Conditions

Variable conditions in the backcountry. The base has had a solid freeze but there is a dusting of dry snow on the surface in some areas. However this surface snow is only up high and most steep slopes will still pose a significant sliding hazard this morning. Solar aspects that are protected from the wind may soften for spring like turns as the day warms but shaded slopes will stay hard all day, especially at the lower elevations. Take care out there.
