Village Chair opens for the season!
Morning everyone and a very good morning it is! It's the apprentice here signing on for my first report of the season. Wow! What an awesome start to the season, I was hoping to ease into this new role but it appears I'm diving straight in the deep end. After excellent snowfalls over opening weekend today we are able to add the Village Chair to the open list and will spin pending final checks.
To add to the good news this morning the weather is looking spot on. We had a chilly overnight low of -3.4 degrees which also happens to be the current temperature as we head for a top of 1 degree today. Currently I can see stars everywhere with clear skies and there's barely a light breeze in the village. There is some light fog to the south which may drift over as the morning progresses. We had a trace of snow yesterday evening and the chilly overnight temps enabled the snow guns to fire up and they're still blasting!
So with 6 lifts ready to roll there's a little bit of something for everyone to get the early season legs going. For the less experienced the Summit, Big D and the carpets will be in great shape and for the more seasoned Road Runner and the Village Loop will provide a great surface first up.
Just to finish on I'd like to give a quick shout out to an out and out Hotham legend Bill Barker. I've always regarded Bill as a mentor of mine in the world of snow. He's one of the most respected Snow professionals in the industry and we both love skiing (Bill loves surfing too). The hope is that by sharing the reporting duties we'll both get plenty of time for our favourite recreational pursuits and I'll be doing my upmost to maintain the quality and integrity of the reports. Just bear with me while I learn the ropes.
Have a great day out there!
Cheers Burner.
Backcountry Conditions
Insufficient base for safe turns in the Backcountry. It's mostly really punchy with a crust on top, so let it settle out some more.
