Here comes July!

Every June's different and this one will be remembered fondly as we kick off the new month. Two strong snow bearing systems gave us some excellent early season conditions setting us up well as we move into July.

Overnight the low was a chilly -4.2 degrees and currently the temperature is -3.4 as we head for a max of 1 degree. We're in for some interesting weather over the next few days under the influence of an east coast low.

Right now the sky is relatively clear with just some high cloud however this is expected to build as the morning progresses.  Currently there's a light south easterly wind in the village which also may strengthen throughout the day.

With the cold overnight temps the snowmakers were able to get a run and the snow on the groomers should be in great shape first up this morning with a dry chalky texture on top. Some of the lower elevation terrain may have moved into a melt freeze cycle and could be firm early so just feel it out before going full send.

If the forecast is anything to go by (which can be tricky with an east coast low) there could be some new snow to report on in the next 24 to 48 hours. However fluctuating freezing levels will also be a factor so we'll just have to wait and see. Check back tomorrow for all the details and in the meantime enjoy what looks to be a pretty good morning out there.

Rip it up! Cheers, Burner.

Backcountry Conditions

The conditions are variable in the backcountry. The southerly wind of a few days ago has stripped many of the exposed faces of the dry snow but there are still pockets of fresh to be found out there. Some solar aspects have moved into a melt-freeze cycle, but still not quite enough for good spring like turns as yet. Hunt around and you'll find fun turns just be careful of the highly variable conditions and thin snowpack in many areas. Take care out there.
