Hang on to your hats and fog is our friend!
The wind has picked right up ahead of an approaching cold front but it looks like it'll be a mostly fine day before the start of a nice weekend freshen up kicks in overnight. The current temp is minus 0.4, heading for a top of 1 degree, but the windchill will make it feel much colder then that out there. There is a light fog being blown through the village by a very strong northerly wind this morning, and although the wind will likely be with us for the day, I expect the fog may clear during the morning.
Morning fog is our friend for the snow conditions. The touch of humidity in the air will help to soften the firm base and should make for good conditions on the groomers from the get-go. Some of the smooth off-piste zones should also be riding ok from the outset, while others may need some sun before coming into shape.
Sadly, we lost Davenport Access and Blue Ribbon yesterday due to the loss of snow after the extended run of warm temps, but we'll see what the weekend brings, and will be trying to resume them if possible. Rug up for the windchill and keep an eye on the lift status, as I expect some of the upper and outer lifts may be knocked out unless the wind backs off a couple of notches.
Cheers Bill

Backcountry Conditions
The base has had another decent freeze overnight so there will be a slide hazard on all aspects this morning. The slightly humid fog this morning may help soften the surface a little, but beware of all steep slopes. It'll be a day for low angled terrain protected from the wind. Tale care out there.
Village to Skiers xing and through to Whiskey Flat groomed S/C. All Christmas Hill trails groomed except Big Spur.
Issued: Fri 15 August, 06:32AM
Its pretty windy out there today. The trails will be somewhat protected. All groomed trails are in good condition and will ski nicely. It will be firm early. MT. LOCH. Maybe not the best day to head out there due to wind and incoming weather. If heading out to explore that area, let someone know of your plans. It will be very firm early. Always keep an eye out for rapid weather changes.Trail to DP groomed Saturday 9th August. Most of the trail has good cover and is in good condition. There are bare patches on the switch backs and near J B plain. No more grooming of this trail unless we have more snow.
There was a track of snow shovelled into the skier tunnel last Saturday for the race. This is short term and reducing, and you need to ski it carefully.
