More Great Spring Turns!

There's a bright red horizon to the east and the wind has picked up from the north, but the sky is mostly clear  above and it looks like we are in for another sunny day with really fun spring snow conditions.  The current temp is 1.3 degrees, heading for a balmy top of 7 degrees and the wind is a strong northerly, which may increase a little more through the morning.

The snowpack is firm but not really frozen, so the turns will be good from the get-go.  Some of the more exposed groomers have a slight wind glaze on them at the moment, but that will break down and soften very quickly, and all areas will soften further as the day warms.  Tomorrow's weather may be a little more challenging, so get out there and make the most of the good weather and fun spring snow conditions today.

And keep an eye on the forecast.  We could be in for a nice September Surprise next weekend!

Cheers Bill

Backcountry Conditions

Melt freeze conditions in the backcountry again today. The snowpack has had a decent freeze overnight so there will be a slide hazard on all steep slopes this morning. The warm wind should help all aspects soften for good spring snow turns as the day warms but beware of south facing and shaded slopes that may stay slick for the day. Take care out there.

Village to Whiskey Flat plus all Northside trails except Hurleys and Biathlon. Big Spur groomed, Sunday (Skate ) East side only .

Another spectacular sunrise this morning. makes the early rise well worth it. All groomed trails will be very good skiing. Groomer put in a nice groom behind the snow fence across Wire Plain. Surface will be quite firm early . Trail to DP, groomed right through September 5th. There is now over 50% walking involved. You can avoid taking skis off in some areas with CREATIVE skiing, ie crossing grassy areas carefully on skis Good for a very relaxed picnic tour. MT LOCH... Possibly quite windy today. Be aware it will be firm early. If heading out to explore that area, let someone know of your plans. Always keep an eye out for rapid weather changes.
