The Calm Before the Storm!

It looks like a cracker of day on the way.  The sky is clear, there is just the slightest breeze from the north, the current temp is a very mild 3.5 degrees and we are heading for a balmy top of 7 degrees.

The temperature did drop below zero overnight, so the snowpack has had a freeze, but the groomed runs (that I have kicked) have some nice soft texture on the surface, so there should be really good turns on the piste from the get-go.  Off piste will be a little firm and best avoided until the sunny east and north facing slopes have softened as the morning warms.

Make the most of it today if you like your weather nice and easy, as it looks like we have a few wild ones coming up.  It's going to get windy and wet to start with, but the end result should be very pleasing.  Stay tuned for updates, but all the signs are looking good for a very solid dump of fresh snow over the coming days!

Slap on the screen and get out there!

Cheers Bill

Backcountry Conditions

The snowpack has had a decent freeze overnight, so there will be a slide hazard on all steep slopes this morning. Solar aspects should soften for good spring-like turns as the day warms but beware of south facing and shaded slopes that may stay hard and slick for the day. Take care out there.

Lovely starry sky to welcome the morning. Groomed again last night; Village to Whiskey Flat. All North side except Big Spur, Biathlon and Hurley's.

All groomed trails will be very good skiing. It will be somewhat less firm to start with than yesterday. MT. LOCH. If heading out to explore that area, let someone know of your plans. Always keep an eye out for rapid weather changes. Trail to DP groomed Saturday 9th August. A lot of the trail still has good cover and is in good condition. There are bare areas on the switch backs, and increasing bare areas near J B plain . There is some walking involved in this trip now, however with a relaxed attitude and a good picnic this journey is still enjoyable. No more grooming of this trail unless we have more snow.
