That's a Wrap on a Stella Season!

There's a bright red sky to the east, but it looks like it'll be a fine day for the last laps of what has been a ripper of a season.  Yesterday was one to remember, with really fun spring snow conditions, great weather and lots of wet entertainment at the inaugural 'Hotham Bird Bath' pond skim.  Thanks to everyone who made it possible and the very many who made a splash!

The wind has picked up to a strong northerly but there will be more really fun soft spring snow conditions out there again today.  The current temperature is a balmy 5 degrees, heading for a season record of 11 degrees but the wind chill will make it feel much cooler up the top.  The snow has not really frozen however there is a slick wind glaze on the surface right now, so it will be a little firmer first thing before softening and slowing as the day progresses.  Get out there and make the most of it early, especially up high, as the wind is expected to increase, which may hinder the upper lift operations later in the day.

Speaking of lift operations, did you know that Heavenly Valley has been open for more days than any season since the massive one in 2000?  Blue Ribbon also had a very solid appearance, so it's been a great result all round, and I hope you scored your share of the many great turns.

And a massive thanks to Burner.  It's been great to be able to share the morning waffle with someone who really understands snow...and occasionally got it wrong just to make me feel good!

Have a beaut summer.

Cheers Bill.

Backcountry Conditions

The snow conditions will likely be pretty challenging in the backcountry today. The snowpack has set up overnight and there is a slide hazard this morning, but it will quickly soften once the day warms. However, the fresh white snow on the surface will probably become too slow and sticky, so the best bet for a few turns will likely be on the patches of older and still exposed brown snow. Hunt around and feel it out, but I expect the backcountry will need a few days of a melt freeze cycle to really come back into shape. Take care out there.

Welcome to the last day of what has been a fabulous season Started with good snow on the opening weekend and we had the Trail to DP groomed by the 10th of June ! And here we are still able to ski some of the trails on the last day of the season. It's been a pleasure working with our groomers to bring you the xc report each morning and I am looking forward to seeing you all out on the trails in 2026. Have an excellent Summer.

A huge thank you again to our groomers, Greg, Nigel and Neil for their consistent dedication and attention to detail turning our trails into such a pleasure to ski.. Well done crew. Poo farm trail, Charlies and Rowed's still quite good skiing.. However be aware that previously bare areas may have a thin cover with obstacles just under the surface. Ski with care especially any downhill areas. For best skiing start at the top of poo farm hill or take the bus to Wire Plain. Will be quite good skiing on most previously groomed trails. There are gaps along the Wonderland trail. Trail to DP is now mostly a walk. MT LOCH. If heading out to explore that area, let someone know of your plans. Always keep an eye out for rapid weather changes.

Best XC Skiing

Charlies, Rowed's Race Link, Ryan's all still quite good skiing . There are gaps along Christmas Hill. Go early for a faster run, later in the day for a more relaxing experience. Pack the snacks and enjoy the day. Check out the NEW WIRE PLAIN HUB for a warm up and a hot drink.

Cheers Bev.
