Falls to Hotham Alpine Crossing

One of Victoria’s iconic walks, the 37km Alpine Crossing is a 3 day/2 night trek through the Alpine National Park. The route links the resort villages of Falls Creek and Mt Hotham.

Walking season dates

The walking season commences early December through to Easter each year. Walking at this time ensure that the trails are in their best condition and the weather is conducive to enjoying the great outdoors.

Below you'll find all the information you need to plan your next hiking adventure at Mt Hotham.

Track Closures

As part of Parks Victoria's pest control program, aerial shooting is scheduled to take place on the below dates.

Aerial shooting operations targeting deer are planned for the Alpine National Park during these dates:

29 April – 3 May 2024

18-22 November 2024

 Parts of the Park will be closed while aerial shooting operations are undertaken. The following areas will be effected: Bogong High Plains, Dinner Plain, Dargo High Plains and Feathertop

More information will be made available 2 weeks prior on the Parks Victoria website. If you have questions or concerns relating to the Pest Control program, please contact ParksVic at: conservation@parks.vic.gov.au.

On these dates in previous years, Bon Accord Spur, Northwest Spur and MUMC hut has been closed for public access. Bungalow Spur, Razorback, Diamantina Spur, Mt Feathertop and Federation Hut has remained open during these dates.
