The alps are a network of integrated eco systems important not only for their unique place in the Australian landscape but also for their integral role in keeping our water catchment healthy.
The Mt Hotham Resort Management Board is committed to sustainable management of the natural environment within the resort. As part of its role as manager of the environment it will assist other mountain users to be aware of and care for the alpine environment; this means understanding the regulatory responsibilities to the Hotham environment as well as the knowledge of how best to keep our impacts minimal. Any new development and/or ongoing management of properties on the mountain have regulatory environmental requirements, for instance any plant species that is planted in the resort must be indigenous to the Hotham area.
If you visit Hotham from late December to February you will be aware of the spectacular flower shows the mountain puts on in summer. By planting the local species it is possible for these beautiful displays to be extended into the Hotham village.
