The following Great Alpine Road access arrangements between Harrietville & the Dargo High Plains Road was issued by VicRoads this afternoon, 14/3/2013

Restricted access times during daylight hours will apply for several weeks while

further slip repair and tree clearing works progress. Drivers should expect delays

between Harrietville and the Dargo High Plains Road intersection. Mt Hotham and

Dinner Plain are accessible from Omeo.

General access is limited to light vehicles under 23 tonnes and 8 metres length. Cars towing trailers or caravans are permitted.

Access times are as follows:

Tuesday 12 March – Thursday 14 March, (extended opening times Due to the Omeo cattle sales)

Open 7am – 9.30am and 4.30 pm – 7.30pm for general access including light vehicles under 23 tonnes and 8 metres length

Friday 15 March – Monday 18 March, open for weekend daylight hours and overnight

Open from 6:30am to 8:30am Friday morning and then from 4pm Friday 15 March until 8.30am Monday 18 March

Weekdays from Monday 18 March ongoing, open overnight

Open overnight from 4.30pm until 8.30am daily

Friday 22 March – Monday 25 March, open for weekend daylight hours and overnight

Open 4pm Friday 22 March until 8.30am Monday 25 March

Thursday 28 March – Tuesday 2 April (Easter weekend) open for weekend and overnight

Open from 12.30pm Thursday 28 March until 8.30am Tuesday 2 April during daylight hours and

overnight

Weekdays from Tuesday 2 April – Wednesday 24 April, open overnight

Open overnight from 4.30pm until 8.30am daily

Weekends from Friday 5 April ongoing, open during daylight hours and overnight

Open Fridays 4pm until Mondays 8.30am

Wednesday 24 April – Monday 29 April (Anzac Day) open for weekend and overnight

Open Wednesday 24 April 4pm until 8.30am Monday 29 April, including Anzac Day and Friday 26 April.

Access times are dependable on works progress, weather and daylight hours. Access could be

restricted at short notice due to safety risks or adverse weather forecasts like high winds or heavy

rains.

VicRoads advises cyclists that while the Great Alpine Road is open to the public it is recommended to

use alternative cycling routes.

Alternative access to/from Omeo from/to the North East is available via Falls Creek and the Bogong

High Plains Road and Benambra-Corryong Road/Omeo Highway.
