Snow is falling at Hotham this morning ahead of the world's top bordercross riders competing this weekend in the World Industries FIS ANC SBX Championship – presented by Hotham
Eight of the world’s top sixteen male boardercross riders and the top ranked female rider will compete for the World Industries FIS ANC SBX Championship at Hotham this weekend, 8 – 9 August.
Conditions should be perfect with a major snowstorm hitting Hotham right now, with 7cm of new snow falling since 8am this morning. Sunny conditions are expected on Saturday just in time for the event.
The two day event will host two FIS races on Hotham’s purpose-built, national standard Road Runner boardercross course.
Members of the Canadian, Japanese and Czech Republic SBX teams will be competing for the title against a sensational line up of local talent including Australian SBX champion Damon Hayler, who had his first World Cup win in Bad Gastein, Austria, earlier this year. Australian SBX stars Alex Pullen, Stephanie Hickey, Kieren Alkemade, Andrew Gibson and Spencer Davis will also be competing in the fast paced freestyle event.
The world’s top ranked female SBX rider, Maelle Ricker (from Canada) will compete, as will the world’s 4th ranked male rider, Michal Novotny (Czech Republic) and the world’s 6th, 8th and 9th ranked riders (all Canadian).
This is a spectacular event not to be missed, with professional boardercross riders battling through burms, chutes, rollers and kickers at extremely high pace. This is a fantastic sport for spectators also and will be featured at the 2010 Winter Olympics.
There are also loads of other events and activites going on at Hotham this weekend including the Bangers & Mash Rail Bash - presented by OME on Saturday night, the Hotham Demo Weekend, and the Advance Sled Dog Chalenge in Dinner Plain.
