It’s the first week of Summer and it’s looking oh-so-snowy here at Hotham. Snowflakes began to fall yesterday morning at around 9.30am and came in waves throughout the day – however, it was too warm to settle on the ground. Temperatures became colder overnight, dropping to a low of to -2.7 degrees at around 1.30 this morning. More snow fell throughout the night, making the mountain look a lot more like June than December!Â
Although it’s not unusual for Hotham to see occasional Summer snowfalls, it is bizarre given the sweltering heat experienced in other states this past week – Perth, Darwin, Brisbane and Melbourne have all come close to 40 degrees.
The snow is expected to be shortlived, so unfortunately there won’t be any tobogganing, skiing or snowboarding just yet with temperatures due to warm up, reaching 19 degrees by Saturday – ideal for cycling, hiking and bushwalking this weekend. Cut down your travel time to Hotham and fly to Albury from Sydney, one way for only $79! Visit www.qantaslink.com.au for more information and hurry - seats on sale until 7 December 2012 unless sold out prior.
There is some slushy snow on the roads so please be careful if you plan to drive via Hotham on the Great Alpine Road today.
