SSA Australian Children’s Championships 2011 - Giant Slalom Races Day One (September 3)

Yesterday Hotham Alpine Resort hosted the first of three race days for the Annual Australian Children’s Championships. Giant Slalom Race 1 and 2 were held on Heavenly Valley’s Snake Gully with children from around the country represented in the battle to be crowned National Champion.

Aged between 11 and 14, Australia’s up and coming ski stars shone as they took on the Giant Slalom gates in beautiful sunshine.

In Giant Slalom Race 1, Lucy Neill from Thredbo Race Club placed first in the Child 1 Girls category with her time of 50.91s. The Child 2 Girls division was won by Kathryn Parker, of Mount Buller Race Club, with a smooth 49.11s run.

The Boys divisions were also well represented with children from Hotham, Falls Creek, Buller, Perisher and Thredbo. Robbie Morrison, of Falls Creek Race Club, placed first in the Child 1 Boys with 49.13s. The Child 2 Boys category was won by Thredbo Race Club skier Oliver Thompson with a 46.32s run.

For Giant Slalom Race 2, the Girls Child 2 division saw Lilly Newton-Brown from Falls Creek Race Club take the top podium with a time of 51.18s. The Child 2 Boys category was won by fellow Falls Creek skier Robbie Morrison with a 52.58s run while the Child 1 Boys division saw Alec Scott, also representing Falls Creek Race Club, win with 48.84s.

The action continues today in the Australian Children’s Championships Slalom on Snake Gully. The Ski-X event will be held on Monday.

SSA Australian Children’s Championships 2011 - Slalom Races Day Two (September 4)

The Australian Children’s Championships continued at Hotham today with Slalom Race 1 and 2.

In Slalom Race 1, Annabelle Hough from Thredbo Race Club placed first in the Child 1 Girls category with her time of 45.50s. The Child 2 Girls division was won by Lilly Newton-Brown, of Falls Creek Race Club, with a 40.94s run.

In the Boys division, Theo Coates, of Thredbo Race Club, placed first in the Child 1 Boys with 42.18s. The Child 2 Boys category was won by Falls Creek Race Club skier Alec Scott with a 37.78s run. For Slalom Race 2, the Girls Child 1 category had Annabelle Hough back on the top podium with a 48.34s run. The Child 2 Girls division saw Lilly Newton-Brown also win another gold medal with a time of 51.18s.

The Boys Child 2 category was won by fellow Falls Creek skier Alec Scott with a 36.82s run while the Boys Child 1 division saw Theo Coates on the podium again with a 41.77s run.

The action continues tomorrow in the Australian Children’s Championships Parallel Slalom, a dual slalom format which is great for spectators, on Sun Run.
