Top Chef Challenge Winner

Mountain Fresh Festival Top Chef Challenge – and the winner is….

After six massive days of Mt Hotham and Dinner Plain’s best chefs plating up the very finest in local produce for their signature Mountain Fresh dish, the votes have been tallied and the winner announced at the official awards presentation held at Rundells Alpine Lodge in Dinner Plain on Wednesday.

 

Kurt Adam from Jack Frost Restaurant & Bar Mt Hotham takes out the title of Top Chef 2010. Kurt won with his delicious dish of prosciutto wrapped Red Stag venison, candied Weston farm walnuts, Milawa blue, local thyme polenta and red wine jus.

 

Second place went to Jake “Mex” Evans from Avalanche Bar Mt Hotham with his pizza “The Lamborzini”… Twice Cooked Lamb Shanks pizza with Beechworth honey and mint, chargrilled zucchini, red onion and Milawa mountain pepper, goats cheese finished with shaved Jerusalem artichokes, roquette leaves and Oxley Estate shiraz viognier.

 

Robbie Smith of Zirky’s Mt Hotham came third with his Myrtleford Venison smoked carpaccio with dehydrated olive and preserved lemon Milawa goats cheese.

 

The quality and creativity of the dishes was of exceptionally high, making it a hard fought battle this year.

 

Mountain Fresh Festival brings the very best in alpine valleys produce to the visitors of Mt Hotham and Dinner Plain. This year’s festival program included plenty of opportunities to sample local wine and food offerings. Popular events included Gruesome Tales and Shanties, a high country campfire cooking experience set in a traditional hut; home spa treatments, and beer and wine master classes hosted by Greg Duncan Powell just to name a few.

 

If you didn’t get to try the Mountain Fresh Festival dishes on offer, don’t worry, these talented chefs are cooking up a storm all throughout winter! Why not come in and try other tasty treats from their scrumptious menus, they’ll be sure to warm you up and refuel you after a big day on the slopes. From gourmet pizzas to laksas to delish cocktails to quality pub meals to gourmet pantry produce, Spanish and Japanese cuisines – there is something to suit all tastes and budgets at Hotham.
