Pea Brain Soup Big Air – presented by The Dragon Mystery Tour.
Saturday 25 July saw a stunning new event, location and concept introduced to Hothams Terrain Park. The third of ten events in the A La Carte in the Park Series 09 was the Pea Brain Soup Big Air. A 45ft, 20ft, and 10ft kicker were built at the ‘Big D Colosseum’, situated skiers left of the Big D lift line. Over 40 competitors and masses of spectators endured the freezing night under lights to see what was a spectacular display of the talent Hotham riders and beyond had to offer.
Riders were competing for prizes supplied by Dragon, as well as points that tally toward the overall A La Carte in the Park Series winner for 2009. It was an amazing display of courage and determination as the cold temperatures made the already steep landing hard packed and icy.
Saturday’s Big Air had the judges making difficult decisions due to the incredible level of talent, the grommets division was taken out by Harry Laidlaw, who is also the current leader in the series, closely followed by Wildman Richardson. Open Men was taken out by his older brother Tim Laidlaw, however Allie Coates and Aaron Patrick are still the series leaders so far. The Open Female division was won by series leader so far Lauren Smith.
The next event in the A La Carte Series is the Beer Battered Rider Cross – to take place on the Sun Run Cross Course next Saturday 2nd August with a 9am course inspection and 10.30am start, another event not to be missed!
