Due to cooler than average temperatures experienced this summer and the threat of hot weather predicted for the season downgraded, fire restrictions have been eased and officially lifted in the Alpine Shire and Mt Hotham this week.
The danger periods are based on local conditions and take into account fuel moistures, fuel loads, grassland curing, weather and rainfall. During the previous decade of drought, fire seasons sometimes lasted into early April.
Parks Victoria and DSE will continue to closely monitor fuel moisture levels and carry out fuel reduction burns when conditions permit and there is an opportunity to do so.
