Australia’s finest Australian snowboard cross riders, including reigning World Champion Alex “Chumpy” Pullin will attack the slopes at Hotham for the Snowboard–X on Saturday and Sunday.
This is the second event in the Suzuki National Snowsports Championships and the main snowboarding event is coming up with practice on Friday, racing on Saturday and Sunday, followed by a two day opportunity for young hopefuls to strut their stuff!
Hotham has successfully hosted the prestigious SBX event over the past three seasons, and we’re eagerly anticipating the event coming up again this weekend. This will be the first time Pullin has competed since the last World Cup season and he's keen to defend the world champion ranking he earned himself when he won in La Molina, Spain, in 2011.
Competition will be fierce, with 17-year-old Jarryd Hughes also fighting for the top spot. Jarryd grabbed the attention of the world’s best riders earlier this year with several outstanding performances in the World Cup rounds.
While Pullin is the hot favourite to win the men’s championship, we have high expectations for Belle Brockhoff in the women’s event, who won her first championship at Hotham last year.
Following this action-packed weekend is the Futures Event, aimed at identifying talented riders aged between 12 and 18. The Futures Event will only be offered to approved applicants. Visit www.skiandsnowboard.org.au for more information.
