Record snowmaking run last night

Record snowmaking run last night

Wow, what an incredible opening weekend and start to the 2010 season! We enjoyed everything on offer from light snowfalls to good snowmaking runs, first turns on three lifts, official openings, entertainment (including the return of Harry the Snowdragon), fireworks, snowplay and… sunshine!

This was the first opening weekend since 2000 where there has been skiing below the Great Alpine Road and hundreds of people hit the slopes of Sun Run to celebrate. This was also the first opening weekend since 2003 where Hotham has been able to open three lifts for skiing and riding - Upper Playground, Summit Trainer and The Big D.

Almost 20,000 cubic metres of snow was made last night which is the most productive snowmaking run we've ever had. Cold conditions continue to provide the ideal environment to make more snow and the team has been busy across the mountain preparing slopes and access trails. Check out the snowcams to see the results of their hard work.

Snow is now forecast to fall for the remainder of this week - thanks Mother Nature - and everyone on the hill is certainly excited about this great start.
