SNOWFLAKES HAVE FALLEN OUTSIDE THE MELBOURNE AQUARIUM ON FLINDERS ST THIS MORNING AT HOTHAM AND FALLS CREEK ALPINE RESORTS’ 2010 SNOW SEASON LAUNCH
With the year’s first snowfall occurring this past weekend, Hotham Alpine Resort and Falls Creek have fittingly officially launched the 2010 Winter Snow Season today.
The launch event was marked by snow falling and resort mascots Harry and Pete the Snowdragons welcoming guests outside the Melbourne Aquarium between 7.30 - 9.00am this morning.
Snowflakes also fell inside the Antarctic Area, joining the majestic King and Gentoo penguins to create an indoor winter wonderland!
Today's luanch highlighted a major investment in snowmaking at both Falls Creek and Hotham. Snowmaking power at Hotham Alpine Resort will increase this winter by 40 percent due to an additional 22 state-of-the-art TechnoAlpin fan snowguns being installed. Falls Creek has invested in 28 automatic TechnoAlpin lance snowguns.
15 year old Winter Olympian Britteny Cox also attended this mornings launch. Britteny recently competed in the 2010 Winter Olympics in the Women's Moguls and is the youngest Australian to compete in an Olympic Games since 1960.
