Premier's Sustainability Awards 2012

The major Alpine Resorts in North East Victoria have once again proved they are on the cutting edge of sustainable practices and have been duly recognised for their efforts at the ‘2012 Premier’s Sustainability Awards’ by bringing home the State Government award.  The ‘Living Bin’ project, coordinated by 4SITE Australia and NevRwaste, saw all resorts take up a food recycling trial back in 2010. The trial was part of Sustainability Victoria’s Towards Zero Waste grants, and now is an ongoing service offered within the Alpine resorts. In the first year of the trial 70 tonnes of food waste was composted instead of being sent to landfill.

MHARMB would like to thank in particular the lodges and other members of the Mount Hotham Resort Community who have participated in this program and we encourage all other stakeholders to make waste management a priority in their business.  For further information on the program and how you can become involved please contact Bev Lawrence on 03) 5759 3550 or email mhar@mthotham.com.au
