After months of preparation and fantastic cooperation from Mother Nature, Hotham Alpine Resort opened for season 2010 operations at 8.30am today.
Visitors from throughout NSW and Victoria have ascended upon the resort to celebrate the opening weekend. Lodges, apartments and carparks are filling fast across Hotham and Dinner Plain
Happy skiers and riders are taking to the slopes of Big D, Summit Trainer and Playground today for first turns with great weekend lift ticket deals of $48 for an adult, $39 for a youth and $24 for a child.
Temperatures are cold, sitting at minus 4 degrees, and the current snowdepth is around 13cm. Last night approx 5500 cubic metres of snow was made along with light natural snowfalls.
Today the Minister for The Environment and Climate Change, Gavin Jennings will officially open the 2010 winter season. “The Victorian alpine region is one of the state’s most popular tourist destinations and this year has the potential to be one of the best ski seasons in recent years,” Mr Jennings said.
Activities over the long weekend include live entertainment and music, Gourmet Walkabout Tour, the Come and try Biathlon weekend, welcome parties and fireworks.
