Up Close and Personal with the Mountain Pygmy Possum

Today the Resort Management staff had the rare pleasure of meeting one of Mount Hotham's favourite residents, the Mountain Pygmy Possum.

Dean Heinz, Environmental Officer and his team are currently in the resort monitoring the population levels and habitats (which is done every 6 months). So at the request of a few curious staff who wanted to know more about these special creatures, Dean gave them a special treat and allowed them to meet one up close.

Please note this is a rare occurrence, and only ever happens under the supervision of Dean.

The good news is that preliminary reports so far suggest that the Mountain Pygmy Possum population at Mount Hotham remains stable, with the latest breeding period bringing positive results.  More pics.
