Hotham - Puts a Lid on It

Introducing snow to children will be even safer at Hotham in 2006 with the introduction of an inaugural helmet program to assist children’s learning and safety. The MILO Helmet Program provides every child between the ages of 3-14 in a Hotham Kids Snowzone lesson FREE use of a helmet for the duration of their ski school program. Hotham is the ONLY resort in Australia to offer this great initiative.

“Hotham aims to be the most pro-active and educational when it comes to ensuring the safety of children when they are on the slopes,” commented Justin Downes, Hotham’s CEO. “Our initiative will encourage kids to learn about the importance of all safety aspects on the slopes, and in so-doing, will add to the enjoyable learning experience. Due to this program, this generation will hopefully see helmets as a necessity when it comes to sliding down the hill – making helmets the ‘norm’.”

Hotham’s Helmet initiative is just one of many improvements that will be featuring at the Big D kids learning area. As Hotham’s Kids Snowzone has become more and more popular in recent years, expansion has been needed, so the front of the kids meeting area at the Big D has been re-landscaped to make it an even safer place to learn the fun of snow. This re-design means that the entire Big D area is completely separated from the Great Alpine Road, making the lesson meeting place now larger than ever.

Also new for 2006, a dedicated drop-off facility will exist at Hotham Central, meaning that parents will be able to leave their children in this area in the hands of a qualified instructor. In addition, the Snowzone’s mountain dragon Schmorkel will be making more regular appearances, and Kids Snowmobile Adventures will also be offered. Hotham Daycare has also been relocated to the Big D and doubled in size. Therefore, the Big D/Kids Snowzone area will allow for easy integration between daycare and ski school for those getting ready to take the step up to instruction. The overall facilities will be rated as one of the most comprehensively dedicated areas for kids and snow in the country.

Hotham would like to offer it’s thanks to MILO for its support in development of this fantastic helmet initiative.
