Great Alpine Running Festival presents the True Spirit of Alpine Australia run

Great Alpine Running Festival presents the True Spirit of Alpine Australia run

Mount Hotham Alpine Resort Management Board has teamed up with Running Wild to create the first ever True Spirit of Alpine Australia run, which will kick off during the annual Great Alpine Running Festival between 18 November and 19 November 2017.

The run celebrates Mount Hotham as the ‘True Spirit of Alpine Australia’, positioning Mt Hotham as the highest alpine village with the most down-to-earth people, and the place to visit for an authentic ‘Aussie’ experience.

Two main runs with various distances will showcase Mt Hotham’s green season with a ‘Twilight Run’ of 3.5km and 10km, and the 25km and 40km Trail Runs. The runs represent the magic of the alpine environment, getting back to nature, and providing something unique for the naturally curious and the naturally adventurous.

Event Director for Running Wild Paul Ashton said that the festival was family-friendly event and a good weekend escape.

“It is a festival of running which allows people of all ages and levels of experience to participate, which makes it a great event for the family,” Mr Ashton said.

“This year we have introduced two untimed runs and walks, so that people that just want to really experience the Vic Alps can get out there without having the pressure of being in a race.

“The True Spirit of Alpine Australia runs take in the best of the High Country where you have the mountains and huts, and going along the Cobungra Ditch road you have all that history and natural beauty that makes Mt Hotham unique.

“It’s a great family weekend and an opportunity to participate in great races, see great scenery, meet new friends and enjoy with the family,” he said.

Saturday night for the kids will include a return 3.5km run/walk from the Village Square to the Summit.  For adults there is the return 10km ‘Romancing Sunset Walk’ from Village Square, up and over the Summit to Loch, past the Orchard Chairlift and return by torch along Machinery Spur. Bubbles and cheese platter will be provided.
