Mt Hotham RMB Advises Caution on Roads

Season 2017 continues to deliver with another 35cm+ of snow expected on Thursday and continuing into Friday, with upwards of 50cm expected over the two days. While this great for those weekend powder turns, it does warrant extra caution on the roads. Winds are expected to be strong over the next two days and visibility variable.

Mt Hotham recommends guests take the Great Alpine Rd from Bairnsdale to Mt Hotham via Omeo (route 2 of the below). This route has a travel time of around 5.5 hours from Melbourne.

The Harrietville approach (route 1) is expected to have delays due to variable road conditions.

All visitors are required to carry diamond pattern chains and fit where directed. It is advised visitors prepare ahead and check the road conditions with Vic Roads before commencing their journey.

Mt Hotham RMB will provide further updates if there is a change in the road conditions.

We look forward to welcoming all our visitors to the resort to share in some of the best snowfall we’ve seen in the last 15 years!

For further information, please see VicRoads media release:

Due to poor visibility, the Resort Management and VicRoads will be running car conveys from Mt Blowhard to the Mt Hotham Village, on the Harrietville approach. The road remains open but delays are expected as we work hard to ensure everyone has a safe trip. Please take caution on the roads and if you are travelling from Melbourne, we recommend taking the Great Alpine Rd from Bairnsdale to Mt Hotham via Omeo (route 2 on the above map). Remember to bring your diamond pattern chains along for the drive! Stay up to date with traffic alerts on the VicRoads website >>
