Mount Hotham Alpine Resort is one of Victoria’s premier alpine recreation destinations.  It holds the unique position of being the highest alpine village in Australia and the reputation of being the Resort for “serious” skiers and boarders.  

The Mount Hotham Alpine Resort Management Board is a State Government Statutory Authority responsible for the overall operation of the Mount Hotham Resort. 

The services provided by the Board include intra-village bus transport, ski patrol, traffic & parking management, snow clearing, cross-country ski trail grooming, Crown lease administration, utilities & infrastructure (potable water supply, sewerage, garbage collection, drainage, and roads), local council services and community & public facilities.

During the winter months Mount Hotham Alpine Resort Management Board employs willing, flexible and able staff to assist in the running of our winter operations.  The positions available with Resort Management for the 2018 season are:

  • Garbage Collectors (Heavy Rigid Licence required)
  • Guest Service staff (Car Licence)
  • Plant Operators, Snow Clearers (must be experienced)
  • Ski Patrollers
  • Vehicle Accountability Officers
  • Cross Country Trail Groomers
  • Tourism Information Officers (Administration)

 

BRIEF POSITION OUTLINES:

Garbage Collector
The Mount Hotham Alpine Resort Management Board (RMB) under the Alpine Resorts (Management) Act 1997 is responsible for the collection and disposal of garbage from Mount Hotham Alpine Resort.

The Board maintains a fleet of garbage collection vehicles, including over-snow vehicles, dedicated to the function of garbage collection and operates and maintains a 1.988 hectare land fill site for disposal of waste from the resort.

Staff employed in this area will be responsible for the collection and disposal of all recycled and domestic waste throughout the Resort.  All vehicles must be operated and staffed with individuals who are safety conscious and display excellent communication skills. All duties will be outside therefore you will be exposed to inclement weather and must be confident in driving in these conditions.  You will be provided with uniform and protective equipment. 

Successful candidates will work from 5.00am to 3.00pm.  Most days the collection can be completed in an 8 hour shift or less, although during peak season times the collection may require a full 10 hour shift.

Candidate Requirements

  • Current Victorian Heavy Rigid licence, or interstate equivalent (mandatory);
  • Ability to undertake physical repetitive work in inclement weather;
  • Proven experience in the customer service industry;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Safety conscious and aware;
  • Flexible availability and skills.

 

Guest Services
This position is the first face to face contact that our guests will have with anyone on Hotham. Staff in these positions represent the mountain and Mount Hotham Alpine Resort Management Board.  Located in the village, Guest service staff are responsible for assisting guests with purchasing resort entry permits and providing visitor information.

Staff in these positions represent the mountain and the Mount Hotham Alpine Resort Management Board.  Customer service is of the highest priority for all resort staff, and everyone is expected to wear a smile to work.

Candidate Requirements

  • Proven experience in the Customer Service industry;
  • Friendly, open, helpful personalities;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Computer literacy;
  • Ability to handle pressure effectively;
  • Highest regard for personal appearance and presentation;
  • Car licence;
  • Work autonomously.

  

Plant Operators, Snow Clearers
Staff in this position will operate plant and equipment required to meet winter operations, maintenance and snow clearing objectives.

Candidate Requirements

  • Current Victorian Drivers licence with Heavy Rigid endorsement;
  • Backhoe and Loader relevant tickets;
  • Expertise in operating and maintaining earthmoving plant and attachments;
  • Immunisation Record;
  • Snow clearing experience;
  • Mechanical skills.

 

Ski Patrollers
Ski Patrollers deliver professional first aid and evacuation services to injured people. In addition the patrol has a primary role in risk management and accident prevention.

Each patroller must also be able to work within and contribute constructively to a strong team.

The prerequisite qualifications for the described position at Mount Hotham include:

  • successful completion of the Australian Ski Patrol Association First Aid certificate or equivalent;
  • demonstration or proof of on snow skills and patrol experience;
  • good health and physical fitness are also necessary.

This position reports to the Ski Patrol Director and is responsible to ensure efficient, professional and safe operation of the ski fields, delivery of first aid and evacuation services and customer service on a daily basis.

Ski Patrollers are appointed for the delivery of services to the snow season program and the term of their employment is linked to resort labour requirements, which in turn is linked to snow fall, snow depth, weather conditions and visitor numbers.

The position is located at Mount Hotham Alpine Resort.

Weekend and shift work will be required through the snow season, including possibility of search and rescue duties.

Award Wages will apply. Must have a current Drivers Licence (snowmobile operations).

  

Vehicle Accountability Officer
The role of the vehicle accountability officer is to ensure all vehicles entering the resort have purchased a valid entry permit and parked their vehicle in the correct designated parking areas.  You will be responsible for checking vehicles in the village area against payment lists, issuing infringement notices, be able to interact with the public on a professional level and be able to work in extreme weather conditions.

 Candidate Requirements

  • must have very good computer skills;
  • must be organised;
  • must show attention to detail;
  • prepared to work independently;
  • be flexible in working hours;
  • assist other staff when required;
  • drive in hazardous conditions (min. car licence);
  • data entry experience preferred.

 

Cross Country Trail Groomer
The position requires snow grooming of resorts cross country trail network to a high customer standard.

Candidate Requirements

  • minimum car licence required, medium rigid licence preferred but not essential;
  • must be organized;
  • prepared to work independently;
  • prepared to work nights and early mornings;
  • be flexible in working hours (snow dependent);
  • drive in hazardous conditions;
  • experience required but not essential;
  • experience in driving snow mobiles & snow grooming kassbohrer’s desirable.

 

Tourism Information Officers (Administration)
Mount Hotham Alpine Resort Management Board seeks enthusiastic and experienced people to join our friendly team.  You will enjoy working in a busy and positive environment set in picturesque Mount Hotham – a uniquely stunning alpine environment.  Staff in this position represent the mountain and the Mount Hotham Alpine Resort Management Board.  Customer service is of the highest priority for all resort staff, and everyone is expected to wear a smile to work.

The Resort Managements objective for this role is to provide a high level of customer service to our visitors.  Your keys areas and responsibilities will include:  switchboard, front desk and customer service, general office duties including secretarial function, word processing, answering machines, faxes and managing incoming and outgoing mail.  Also you will need to manage cash, control of counter sales, manage stock and office stationery supplies.

Candidate Requirements

  • Experience in customer service;
  • Ability to handle pressure effectively;
  • Previous cash/eftpos processing reconciliations;
  • Fast and accurate data entry experience;
  • Computer literacy;
  • Switchboard management;
  • Highest regard for personal appearance and presentation.
